The Artist's Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887 - 1920

Focused on the period 1887-1920, The Artist’s Garden tells the intertwining stories of American artists, Impressionism, and the growing popularity of gardening as amiddle-class leisure pursuit at the turn of the twentieth century. Through the exhibition of diverse fine art and material culture, including paintings, sculpture, books, and stainedglass, The Artist’s Garden will lead visitors to discover how the horticultural and visual artsin Philadelphia were manifestations of an emerging national Progressive era middle-class American identity.

The Historic Landmark Building street level elevator is undergoing a much needed renovation and upgrade that will be completed on March 1, 2015. To maintain the safety of our visitors during construction, the only access to the building will be via the Broad Street stairway entrance.
